Steve Hinan presents
Sixth Dimension Adventure
The Cartographer: Game Design Document
Pitch
A 60-second side-scrolling run. Run, jump, and swing across gaps like a pendulum. Hexapuss waits at the end, rising from a portal to the sixth dimension.
How it plays
- One run, 60 seconds, left to right.
- Jump over hazards. Grab swing points above you, swing, and let go to launch across gaps.
- Dimensional Drift: the closer you get to Hexapuss, the deeper into the sixth dimension the world goes. Visuals and sound change more and more as you run.
- Fail means a quick retry from the last checkpoint.
- Score rewards pickups, time, and clean play.
Controls
Fully playable on PC with keyboard or mouse, and on a phone with touch. One main action: jump and grab.
- Keyboard: Space, Up or W to jump. Hold to grab and swing. Release to launch.
- Mouse: click to jump. Hold to grab and swing. Release to launch.
- Phone: tap to jump. Hold to grab and swing. Release to launch.
The hero
The Cartographer. A map maker with a lantern, running through a living world that slowly bends out of shape.
The Hexapuss boss
Hexapuss emerges from a six-dimensional portal on the far right of the screen. He is the goal and the danger. His attacks are telegraphed so you can read them and react.
Art and Audio
- Palette: orange, green and purple. Green for the living world, purple for the sixth dimension, orange for light and warnings.
- Readable: the hero, hazards and swing points always stay clear, whatever the background does.
- Audio: music and sound effects shift with Dimensional Drift.
Status
